Website anatomy would not exist without HTML. The acronym HTML stands for "Hyper Text Markup Language". This language was created by Tim Berners-Lee in 1980. Tim also heads up the organization that regulates the internet called the World Wide Web Consortium also known as (W3C). HTML is the official language of the WWW; specifically HTML 4.01 and XHTML. When multiple pages are constructed using HTML and joined together they form a website.

The Consortium is responsible for all updates and changes concerning the WWW. However, web builders are free to build any type of website they choose. Technically, you could look at the anatomy of a website the same way we look at the structure of the human body. The internal parts are connected to function as a whole. When one part isn't working well the rest doesn't work well.

You could use the analogy that HTML coding works like the heart does in humans keeping web pages alive. When one character of HTML coding is missing you get errors. The same can be said if you're having heart trouble. When the human heart stops working we are laid to rest and if HTML has bad code the page will not function.

I'm using an analogy of internal workings of the body to illustrate that all parts of a website are equally important to each other and should programmed to get the best results. The truth is, the anatomy of humans is way more complex than the inside workings of a website. Websites can only do what humans program them to do.

The internal parts of HTML are Hyper Text Links, Meta tags, content consisting of words, images and a other dynamic languages such as flash and Java Script. The Consortium is currently working on HTML 5.

HTML 5 will no doubt be more dynamic in its functioning than current HTML Scripting. The desire to change and improve HTML is largely motivated by the limitations of the existing language.

There are issues with flash and HTML 5 is rumored to have remedies that will help smooth things out. Search engines still don't index flash as well as simple text, so it will be interesting to see what's on the horizon.

HTML 5 currently has a few completed scripts presently being used throughout the web. According to Wikipedia, the new standard incorporates features like video playback and drag-and-drop that are currently dependent on third-party browser plug-ins such as Adobe Flash, Microsoft Silverlight, and Google Gears.

Flash and Java scripting are mostly used to create interactivity between the user and a website. A good example is seeing what happens after filling out a form on a website. Boring to watch but, behind the web page, your information gets collected and distributed interactively because it was programmed beforehand. Humans retrieve the information and use it for all sorts of data processing to communicate with you again in the future.

HTML is interconnects web pages with other web pages creating a web. Each page can be programmed with hyper text links that connect to other pages. When a Hypertext link is clicked, you are taken to different page with different content.

As you break HTML parts down, you'll see parts of the language functioning in different ways to engage search engines such as Meta tags. Meta tags are directors that instruct search engines. They give descriptions of web pages and tell search engines how they should be stored or indexed.

The three most important Meta tags are Description Tags, Keywords Tags and Title Tags. They play a very important role in optimizing a web page. The description Meta tag is used to tell search engines what your website or web page is about. A good description Meta tag is important and should also have your keywords in them.

The keyword Meta tag inform search engines how to find your website based on the keywords you use to describe your web pages.

The title Meta tag tells search engines the name of your website. These tags are often taken for granted and not used to their full potential.

When all of the Meta components are working well together, you web page is working optimally Good optimization equals targeted traffic which could lead to increased sales, depending on the goal of your website.

If you're planning to build a website, don't neglect the anatomy of a website. Give it your full attention for maximum results. Good Meta tag and keyword optimization is like feeding your website good food.

Five Tips to maximize the anatomy of a website.
