You must be careful what information you follow as formatting a PC is a precise task and one mistake can ruin your computer. Making mistakes and starting again when formatting your computer can turn into a disaster.
If you would like to know how to format your computer and reinstall Windows you must be having a problem with your computer. I have to warn you now that if you proceed to format your computer all the files you have on your computer will be erased. Formatting your computer puts it back to the original state it was in when you bought the computer.
What will you need to reinstall Windows and format your PC?
1. If you want to format your PC and reinstall Windows you are first going to need your original Windows CD that came with your computer. This is the best way to format a computer.
2. You will also have to find another CD that came with your computer that contains the driver files to run the devices on your computer.
3. It is also recommended that you have already backed up your files because formatting your PC and reinstalling Windows means that you will lose everything that was on the computer prior to this.
Now let's start to format your PC
If you have your original Windows CD then we need to put this into your CD drive and then start your computer. If your computer is already on then I suggest that you restart it. We want to boot into that CD.
A message should appear on the computer screen saying to "press any key... ". This means you can press any key on your keyboard to proceed to boot to the CD. If you do not see this message then you will need to restart your computer and enter into your BIOS and change where your computer boots to first.
Once we have booted into the Windows CD we can start to format your PC. You will see a blue screen and you will see files getting loaded onto your computer. You will be prompted to press F8 to agree to some terms and conditions.
One of the first screens that you will come to will list the partitions on your computer and you will see which one holds the previous version of Windows. You will need to select this particular partition. This will tell the computer that you want to format this section.
It is best to delete the old partition that contain the previous version of Windows on it. If you are using Windows XP you will need to press D to delete the partition and L to confirm it. If you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7 you will need to press on the link that says drive options ( advanced) and then you want to delete and press on new to create a new partition.
Formatting a PC that has Windows Vista or Windows 7 on it is far easier than formatting a computer with Windows XP. Obviously technology has evolved and everything becomes easier. There are a few more details to formatting a PC if you are using Windows XP, however if you are using Windows 7 or Windows Vista then it will be a breeze from here.
