Users of Ubuntu often face difficulties when it comes to playing online poker. Unlike users of Apples famous "MAC" operating system the Ubuntu system isn't mentioned on poker sites and you will notice that many poker sites software is only compatible with Windows or MAC, which makes people assume that Ubuntu users will not be able to play online poker. But this is far from the truth. There are two different ways in which poker players using Ubuntu can access and play at a number of online poker sites.
1. Users of Ubuntu can use software such as "WINE" which is a windows emulator and allows you to run Windows programs through your Ubuntu operating system. With WINE downloaded and running you will be able to download and play at any poker site easily. WINE is free to download as it is open source software and has a well backed support community so if you encounter any problems you will be in safe hands.
2. Ubuntu users can also play online poker through their web browser using the "instant play" option which some sites offer. The biggest poker site networks to offer "instant play" are Cereus, iPoker and Party Poker. All of which have a no download game, which means you can access the virtual tables immediately through your browser without having to download any software.
American players looking to play instant poker are limited to the Cereus network. This is because of the laws relating to online gambling which has meant a number of sites have stopped serving the US market.
